EUR 20 bn trade deficit for Poland in 2022: stats office

Poland ended last year with a foreign trade deficit of around EUR 20 billion, the country’s statistics office has said in a final estimate.

The figure was slightly higher than an initial estimate of EUR 19.8 billion.

Poland’s exports totaled EUR 346.2 billion in 2022 as a whole, while imports were worth EUR 366.2 billion, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said on Monday.

It added that Poland's exports last year increased by 23 percent in zloty terms at current prices compared with 2021, while imports grew by 29.4 percent year on year.

Poland’s largest export markets in 2022 were Germany, the Czech Republic and France, while Germany, China and Italy were the country’s largest import markets, data showed.

In 2021, Poland's foreign trade showed a deficit of around EUR 1.5 billion, according to Statistics Poland.

In 2020, the country posted a foreign trade surplus of EUR 10.5 billion.
