Slovakia boasted the fastest year-on-year growth in seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the EU in August, at 4.7 percent, followed by Denmark in second place, with 3.5 percent, and Malta in third place, with 3 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.
Among member states for which data were available, Ireland reported the steepest year-on-year decrease in industrial production in August, at 27.3 percent, while Slovenia recorded a 12.3 percent drop, the agency's data showed.
The agency said on Friday that seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the EU as a whole decreased by 4.4 percent in August in year-on-year terms.
Poland’s statistics office, which uses a different methodology, reported last month that Polish industrial production fell 2 percent in August compared with the same month a year earlier. When adjusted for seasonal factors, the decrease was 1.8 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
