The package will also see a special aid fund set up to help tourist bureaux in the event of a crisis like the pandemic.

In another move to help the tourism industry, the new rules will also allow hotel operators, coach companies and travel agencies to be exempted from paying social security contributions.

The Polish labour minister said last week that some 6 million jobs have been saved around the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aims to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Polish economy contracted 8.2 percent in the second quarter of this year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported last month.

Poland’s health minister has said he expects around a thousand new coronavirus infections a day in the near future.

He was speaking after Poland on Saturday reported a new record daily rise in coronavirus infections, confirming 1,002 new cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country in early March.
