Gozdur's award-winning project, in the social sciences category, is about "justice institutions in the French and Polish criminal procedure codes" and "fair trial standards in international law and convict rehabilitation."
The work contains an in-depth analysis of criminal law and the sociology of law, including a set of proposals of far-reaching changes in the legislative system.
These, according to Gozdur, are aimed at "improving the effectiveness of the system of justice and of the resocialization of convicts."
A 2023 graduate of a high school in Łódź, central Poland, Gozdur is set to begin law studies at the University of Warsaw.
In addition to receiving EUR 7,000 in prize money, he was invited to attend an International Youth Science Seminar in Stockholm.
Almost 140 promising young scientists under 20, coming from 36 countries across the EU and beyond, took part in the EUCYS 2023, which was held in Brussels. They presented 85 different projects to an international jury of 22 highly qualified scientists and engineers.
Since Poland’s first participation in EUCYS in 1990, 67 Polish projects have won awards, 29 of which have claimed top prizes.
The 2024 edition of the contest will be held in Poland’s Katowice, the European City of Science, from September 9 to 14.
