In a five-set match, Majchrzak beat Chile’s Nicolás Jarry 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 in the men’s singles.
In the women’s singles, rising star Świątek defeated Serbia’s Ivana Jorović 6-0, 6-1. The Pole next takes on Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.
Meanwhile, Polish players Hubert Hurkacz and Magdalena Fręch both crashed out in the first round.
Hurkacz was beaten by France’s Jérémy Chardy 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, 1-6, 4-6. Fręch was defeated 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 by Germany’s Laura Siegemund.
On Tuesday, Poland’s Magda Linette takes on Australia’s Astra Sharma in a first-round encounter.
