Tennis: Poland’s Linette through to 2nd round of US Open

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the second round of the US Open tennis tournament in New York.

The 27-year-old Pole beat Australia’s Astra Sharma 6-3, 6-4 in their first-round women's singles match at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.

Linette, 53rd in the world ranking, next takes on Japanese world No. 1 Naomi Osaka in the round of 64.

Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak and Iga Świątek have also advanced to the second round of the US Open.

Meanwhile, Polish players Hubert Hurkacz and Magdalena Fręch both crashed out in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
