The Pole leads the race for the European Golden Shoe award for the top scorer of the 2019/2020 season, ahead of Timo Werner of German side Leipzig and Ciro Immobile of Italian outfit Lazio, according to the uefa.com website.

Lewandowski scored a goal as his Bayern Munich defeated Freiburg 3-1 in a German Bundesliga match on Wednesday.

The Polish marksman has bagged 19 goals in the German Bundesliga this season and leads the table among the division's top scorers, narrowly ahead of Leipzig’s Werner.

Lewandowski has scored a total of 221 goals in the German premier league and is the Bundesliga's third-highest scorer in history.

Only past German icons Gerd Müller, with 365 goals, and Klaus Fischer, with 268, have netted more in the league's 57-year history, according to the bundesliga.com website.

The Polish goal machine on Wednesday became the first player in Europe to reach a total of 30 goals for the season across all competitions.

The 31-year-old, who also captains Poland’s national squad, was in May crowned the top scorer of Germany's Bundesliga premier league in the 2018/2019 season, his fourth such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010.
