Świątek to play on home soil
One of the 30 WTA 250 events of the year, the tournament brings together 32 players in the main draw, with Poland's Świątek the natural favourite to claim the title.
For the Polish player, it will be an opportunity to go back to winning ways after an unexpected early exit from Wimbledon earlier this month.
Before her third-round defeat to France’s Alize Cornet, Świątek had won 37 successive matches, scooping six titles and the world No. 1 spot in the process.
Attractions for fans
Meanwhile, Poland’s capital city is preparing a host of attractions for tennis fans, including a fan zone, a family zone and various tennis-promoting activities, according to tenismagazyn.pl.
Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski said it was “a huge honour” for the city to stage the BNP Paribas Poland Open, adding that the audience would have “an unrepeatable opportunity to watch Iga Świątek in action on home soil.”
Trzaskowski told reporters: “Together with the organisers, we are preparing many treats for Warsaw residents and tennis supporters. I encourage everyone to visit the Legia Warsaw tennis courts in the last week of July.”
Tickets are already on sale, costing between PLN 60 (EUR 12,50) and PLN 250 (EUR 52), tenismagazyn.pl reported.
