The BNP Paribas Poland Open tournament, first held in 2021, is the biggest tennis event in the country.

The tournament is a part of the WTA main circuit, which means it attracts some of the best female players from Poland and further afield.

The WTA 250 tournament is one of 30 such events played annually around the world. Poland is now part of this honourable group, which places the country back on the international tennis map, according to officials.

This year, 32 players and 16 doubles pairs will play in the main tournament, with Świątek the top seed. The two-time Roland Garros champion leads the WTA ranking and has dominated women's tennis this year.

Klaudiusz Madeja was at the tournament's opening press conference and filed this report.
