Świątek, 21, overcame the American eighth seed Jessica Pagula 6:3, 7:6 (7:4) in their quarter-final encounter at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland’s world No. 1 will now play the sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the semi-finals on Thursday, as she seeks to advance to the US Open final for the very first time in her career.

In her on-court interview on Wednesday, Świątek said about reaching the semi-finals: "It means a lot. I wasn't expecting that at the beginning of the tournament.”

She added about facing Sabalenka: "It's going to be tough, even though I have won the last couple of matches against her, I know she is in great shape.”

"I'm going to be ready," Świątek said.

The Pole has so far claimed six WTA titles in 2022, including the French Open, winning a total of 55 matches.

The 2022 US Open runs until September 11.
