Tennis: Poland’s Świątek through to last 16 at Indian Wells

Poland’s Iga Świątek has reached the round of 16 of the Indian Wells tennis tournament in the United States.

The Polish world No. 2 beat Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-2 in the third round.

Świątek, who won the Indian Wells title in 2022 and 2024, will now face Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic for a place in the women’s singles quarterfinals at the tournament in the California desert.

In 2022, Świątek completed the Sunshine Double, winning the Indian Wells and the Miami Open back to back.

The 2026 Indian Wells tournament runs until Sunday.
