They include Jules Massenet’s “Werther”, Puccini’s “La Boheme”, “Cardillac” by the German-born American composer Paul Hindemith, and Beethoven’s “Fidelio”, which will be staged in a co-production with the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

A total of 25 operas will be in the National Opera’s repertoire, including Polish classics such as Stanisław Moniuszko’s “The Haunted Manor” and “Halka”, as well as Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, and Puccini’s “Tosca”.

The company’s managing director, Waldemar Dąbrowski, had told the media that among the highlights of the forthcoming season are recitals by two internationally-renowned Polish singers, tenor Piotr Beczała and countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński.

A special concert in tribute to Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, who died in March, will be held on November 23, the day of his birth in 1933.

As of the 2020/21 season, the Polish National Opera will have a new music director. He is the French conductor Patrick Fournillier, who is regarded as one of the top specialists in French and Italian music.

He has worked closely with some of the world’s leading opera houses, including Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
