The work, subtitled Fragments of Memory, was named best musical premiere (Meilleure Création Musicale) of the 2019/2020 season by members of the French Association of Theatre, Music and Dance Critics (Syndicat de la critique théâtre, danse et musique).

Launched in 1963, the award is one of the most prestigious French distinctions in the performing arts.

Krauze had earlier received the same award in 2012, for his opera Polieukt.

Krauze’s Piano Concerto No. 3 had its world premiere at the 2019 Warsaw Autumn Festival when it was performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic conducted by Wilson Hermanto, with the composer as the soloist.

In January 2020, the piece was premiered in France by the Orchestre National de Metz, with the same conductor and soloist.

At 81, Krauze is one of the leading Polish composers of his generation. He is also a highly acclaimed pianist and a respected teacher of composition.

He has developed close artistic links with France, where he lived for over a decade, serving, among other functions, as advisor to the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique Musique (IRCAM).

His honours include the French Legion of Honour and the title of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
