The decision by the Polish Film Institute (PISF) was announced on Monday at a press conference in Warsaw.

Never Gonna Snow Again is set to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which is to be held from September 2 to 12.

The film is a comedy drama about a young Ukrainian who arrives in Poland in search of employment and lands a job in a Warsaw massage parlour, where he becomes a guru-like figure in the gated community where his clients live, online news site Deadline.com reported.

The cast includes Alec Utgoff (Stranger Things Netflix series) in the main part, and leading Polish actors Maja Ostaszewska, Agata Kulesza, Weronika Rosati, Katarzyna Figura and Andrzej Chyra.

The feature, which is a joint Polish-German production, is Szumowska’s seventh film.

Szumowska has become one of Poland’s most acclaimed film directors. Her 2013 film In The Name Of won prizes at the Berlin festival and Poland’s Gdynia Film Festival.

Body, her 2015 feature, was awarded the Berlinale Silver Bear for best director, and won the European Film Awards’ People’s Choice Award. Her 2018 film Mug won the Silver Bear Jury Grand Prix award at the Berlinale.

For Englert, a prominent cinematographer with an award at the Sundance Festival to his name, Never Gonna Snow Again is a directorial debut.

Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida won an Oscar for best foreign-language film in 2015.

The 2021 Oscars have been delayed until April 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
