Int’l award for Polish singer

Polish mezzo-soprano Alicja Węgorzewska has received the Women in Cinema Award (WiCA). The ceremony was one of the sideline events at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

Węgorzewska was honoured for her artistic achievements,  the production of opera films, and her support for young artists in the current difficult situation caused by the pandemic.

The WiCA selection panel comprises leading Italian women film journalists.

Alicja Węgorzewska has served as Director of the Warsaw Chamber Opera since 2018.

Last year, she received The Callas Tribute Prize which celebrates the legacy of the legendary opera star Maria Callas and is bestowed on women who stand out for their achievements in music, the arts, theatre, fashion and social involvement.
