The month-long showcase is being hosted by the Polish capital’s Iluzjon cinema, state news agency PAP reported.

Audiences will be offered the chance to watch almost all the movies that are in the running for this year’s Polish Film Academy Awards, the Eagles, organisers said.

Some 70 films will be screened, from full-length features to documentaries and animated movies, news outlets reported.

Ukraine Day

Monday, day one of the Eagles 2023 Festival, was set to be Ukraine Day, according to the organisers.

The day’s programme was due to include Szymon Gonera’s Superheroes, a documentary about the victims of Russia’s assault on Ukraine and those who help them, as well as Volodymyr Tichy’s docu-movie One Day in Ukraine, chronicling one of the first days of the Russian invasion, and Dmytro Sukholytky-Sobchuk’s feature debut Pamfir, a Polish-Ukrainian co-production nominated for this year’s European Film Award.

Apokawixa, The Silent Twins, IO

In all, 73 movies are in the running for this year’s Eagle award in the Best Film category, and many of them will be screened over the next three-and-a-half weeks at Warsaw’s Iluzjon cinema, the PAP news agency reported.

Among them are Poland’s first zombie movie, Xawery Żuławski’s Apokawixa, Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s award-winning The Silent Twins and Poland’s 2023 Oscar candidate, Jerzy Skolimowski’s IO, organisers said.

The Eagles 2023 Festival runs until February 3.

The full programme of screenings is available here.

Meanwhile, nominations for the 2023 Polish Film Academy Awards will be announced on February 8.

The 2023 Eagles will be handed out at a ceremony on March 6, the PAP news agency reported.
