The boy is among the winners of this year’s New York Golden Classical Music Awards in a competition that aims to discover musicians of outstanding personality and help them in their careers.

The auditions and final selection of winners were based on audio and video recordings.

According to music critics, Kacper’s success is all the more remarkable that he plays the saxophone, an instrument that is rarely studied at such an early age.

He first touched the sax at the age of eight and instantly realised that playing the instrument was what he wanted to do.

His mother recalls though that the first weeks and months were difficult, as mastering sound production is a long process.

Kacper lives in the village of Wadąg, northern Poland, and attends a music school in the nearby city of Olsztyn.

Kamil Wiącek, his sax teacher, says that initially he had serious doubts about whether Kacper, a small boy, would be able to cope with the sizeable instrument.

“But it suited him fine," Wiącek told a local paper. "He’s very talented. He started with a soprano sax but is going to start with an alto sax very soon."

Kacper will go to New York with one of his parents as well as his teacher and accompanist. The boy's family has launched a fundraising platform to help them cover the costs.
