Renowned Polish theatre groups will entertain the Western city of Poznań with their performances. Two Ukrainian and two German plays are also on the bill, accompanied by a two-day conference titled "Poland-Germany. Neighbourhood – Stereotypes – Empathy – Cooperation."
Przemysław Kieliszewski, the director of the Poznań Musical Theater, emphasized the festival as a true celebration of stage performance. "Audiences will have the chance to see exceptional titles. There will also be a myriad of accompanying events: shows from other Poznań theatres, a musical gala with awards, outstanding concerts, film screenings, discussion sessions, and conferences," he commented.
On September 29th, the Powszechny Theatre of Łódź will perform a play inspired by the life of popular Polish pop singer Krzysztof Krawczyk titled "Chciałem być" (I Wanted to Be). On October 1st, the Gdynia Musical Theater will present "Sztafeta pokoleń" (Relay of Generations), directed by Marek Sadowski. The award-winning play "1989," a joint production of the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków and the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, will be showcased on October 3rd. Another significant play, "5:00. UA," captures the experiences of several Ukrainian actresses narrating their initial days of the Russian invasion, their escape to Poland with their children, and their stay in the country. The festival's program also includes a performance of "Marlene und die Dietrich," directed by Carsten Kirchmeier, with musical supervision by Matthias Stoetzel.
A musical gala on October 2nd will entertain audiences with songs from the recent seasons' premieres, followed by the announcement of the winners of the national poll for the best musical premieres of the 2022/2023 season.
Festival-goers can also look forward to meetings with artists and creators. Two book launches, author meetings, film screenings of musicals at the Pałacowy Cinema, and a scientific-business conference will complete the programme.
Attendees can also watch plays from the Polish Theatre, Animation Theatre, Polish Dance Theatre, Emigrant Theatre, and the Artefiktion Association from Hanover. The festival runs until October 9th.
