The festival’s organizers have curated a program featuring over 70 screenings, including 45 full-length films, all intended to lift a veil on "captivating imagery while exposing inconvenient realities and exploring the world."

The festival’s goal is to offer a diverse cinematic experience, from showcasing the ordeals of remarkable musicians to the everyday struggles of seemingly ordinary individuals.

The films, divided into 10 thematic categories, promise a diverse array of stories — from musical odysseys in the remote landscapes of Scotland and Norway to the horrid realities of war zones in Ukraine and Syria.

The programming does not shy away from bringing world conflicts to the forefront, and aims to take the audience on a journey beginning with the initial traumatic days of the Russian invasion.

Kicking off the festival is Jakub Piątek’s Pianoforte, a film that transcends traditional documentary storytelling by merging elements of sport films into its narrative. The film showcases the intense competition of brilliant pianists from around the world during the last Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw.

Highlighting this event, pianist Marcin Wieczorek, featured in the film, will perform a piano concert, enriching the screening with a live musical performance.

Audiences can also anticipate meetings and discussions with the filmmakers, and literary gatherings aimed at deepening the understanding of the issues tackled in the documentaries.

Special guests include Małgorzata Kozera, the director of Twarze Agaty, Kuba Mikurda, who brings a variation on Stanisław Lem’s famed novel with Solaris Mon Amour, and Bartosz Paduch, the director of Fantastyczny Matt Parey.

In wrapping the array of narratives into a cohesive experience, the festival ensures that essential films of recent months are not overlooked. Notable presentations include the Golden Lion-winning All This Beauty and Blood, directed by Laura Poitras, and Cat Daddies, a lighthearted yet touching look into the world of "cat fathers" by Mye Hoang.

Poznań is a city rich in history and a vibrant center for arts and culture. Running until October 29, the Off Cinema Documentary Film Festival promises an exploration of diverse human experiences, reaffirming the city's place as a significant cultural hub.
