The recital will also include works by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937).

The Barbican Centre says on its website: “From Bach to Webern, pianist Piotr Anderszewski finds fascinating connections between composers whose visionary ideas would change keyboard music forever. [He] is renowned for his interpretations of Bach and brings that special affinity to the monumental Partita No. 6 which, in the words of musicologist David Schulenberg, is ‘the crowning work of the set and Bach's greatest suite.”’

Referring to Szymanowski’s Mazurkas Nos 3, 7, 8, 5 & 4, Op 50, which are included in the programme, the website says the composer infuses them “with the mind-bending rhythms and melodies of Polish folk dance.”

Anderszewski, 54, is regarded as one of the world’s most outstanding pianists. He studied at the conservatories in Lyon and Strasbourg, the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and the Warsaw Music Academy.

He frequently performs recitals at prestigious venues and collaborates as a soloist with top orchestras.

Under an exclusive contract with Warner Classics, Anderszewski has recorded Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, a selection of Bach's Partitas and English Suites, Szymanowski’s works for solo piano, as well as compositions by Mozart and Schumann.

Anderszewski's honours include the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award.
