He was best known for directing popular TV series including Czterdziestolatek (A Forty-year-old), and Wojna Domowa (The Home War), telling stories of every-day life under Poland’s communist regime.
Born on April 4, 1932 in Warsaw, Gruza graduated from the National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in the central Polish city of Łódź.
He also directed successful TV Theatre plays for Poland’s state television TVP, including Polish versions of Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Les Miserables.
