The 20-year-old Pole on Wednesday eased past the 36-year-old Russian 6-1, 6-3 in their second-round women's singles match at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital.

Świątek, who is ranked world No. 9 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, who outlasted Croat Petra Martić in a tight three-setter 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 44 Magda Linette has booked a spot in the second round of the Wimbledon women's singles with a three-set 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win on Wednesday over Amanda Anisimova of the United States.

She next takes on Ukraine's Elina Svitolina for a place in the third round.

Poland's Świątek in 2018 won the Girls' Singles title at Wimbledon.
