Polish gov’t vows 'zero tolerance' for drunk drivers

The government has approved a set of changes to Poland’s rules of the road that would allow for up to a tenfold increase in maximum fines for various traffic offences.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki briefs reporters on the government's plans to toughen Poland's traffic laws and crack down on drunk drivers.

The new rules would also toughen punishments for drunk driving.

“In case of drunk driving your car may be confiscated,” said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

He added that "the fines will be more severe to encourage safer and more careful driving."

"An ordinary walk to school or a family hike should not be fraught with risks to our lives," Morawiecki told reporters.
