Mateusz Morawiecki made the statement ahead of a special European Council meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on Thursday.

The leaders of the European Union’s 27 member countries were expected to focus on continued support for Ukraine as it battles the Russian aggression.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky was also set to attend the summit, after visiting London and Paris for talks with British, French and German leaders on Wednesday.

Zelensky was expected to ask for more long-range rocket artillery systems, tanks, planes and ammunition, according to news reports.

The Polish PM told reporters: “What Ukraine needs most of all is ammunition. It has turned out to be a bit of a concern, a bit of an Achilles heel for the whole Western world, and so in every country, including Poland, we are stepping up the production of ammunition.”

Referring to the Brussels summit, Morawiecki said: “The number one topic is still the war in Ukraine because we all want to bring peace, security and stability as soon as possible. This war must end. However, it must end in such a way that Ukraine wins. It is clear to everyone here.

Earlier, the PM stated that he would appeal to fellow EU leaders for cooperation in providing financial and military support to Ukraine, for a 10th round of sanctions against Russia and for “confiscation and donation of Russian property to reduce energy prices for citizens and help rebuild Ukraine.”

Thursday is day 351 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
