The latest update on Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia was provided by the Ukrainian General Staff on Sunday afternoon, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
Bakhmut direction - Donetsk region
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops on Sunday repelled Russian attacks in the areas east of Bohdanivka and southeast of Bila Hora, Ukraine’s military command said.
Russian forces attempted to regain lost ground in the Klischiivka area of the Donetsk region, but did not succeed, according to Ukrainian officials.
Russia also carried out aerial strikes near Klischiivka, Andriivka and New York in the Donetsk province, as well as using artillery and mortar fire to attack more than 10 populated areas in the region, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka, Druzhba and New York, RBC-Ukraine reported.
Melitopol direction - Zaporizhzhia region
In the Melitopol direction, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian forces on Sunday continued their counteroffensive operation, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
Ukrainian troops also repelled Russian attacks near the strategic village of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia, according to officials.
Russia conducted aerial strikes near Verbove, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne and Novodanylivka, as well as shelling more than 10 populated areas with artillery and mortar fire, including Levadne, Hulyaipole, Yehorivka, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka and Plavni, RBC-Ukraine reported.
Ukraine’s air and missile strikes
In the course of Sunday, Ukraine’s air force carried out eight strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, equipment and military vehicles, the General Staff in Kyiv said.
Ukraine’s missile forces successfully targeted two Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, four artillery pieces and one ammunition depot, according to officials.
Russian attacks
When it comes to Russian attacks, Moscow on Sunday launched one missile strike and 44 aerial strikes, as well as conducting 52 bombardments from multiple rocket launchers on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, RBC-Ukraine reported.
There have been casualties and injuries among Ukrainian civilians as a result of these attacks, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
Moreover, private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure also suffered destruction and damage, according to officials in Kyiv.
In its ongoing counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is seeking to encircle and recapture Bakhmut in the east, while also pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, splitting Russian forces, according to news outlets.
Monday is day 579 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
