The strike was carried out with drones and missiles overnight into Monday, The Kyiv Independent website reported.

Numerous explosions rang out in Odesa as Russia launched a series of attacks on southern Ukraine, according to news outlets.

Five Odesa residents, from throughout the city, sustained shrapnel wounds and were hospitalised, The Kyiv Independent reported.

A Russian missile struck near Odesa’s National Art Museum, damaging the facility, according to officials.

Oleh Kiper, the governor of the Odesa region, said on the Telegram social messaging app: “On November 6, the Odesa National Art Museum turns 124 years old. On the eve of November 6, the Russians 'congratulated' our architectural monument with a missile that hit nearby."

The museum’s walls were damaged, with some windows and glass broken, the governor added.

The Odesa city council published footage showing blown out windows and debris inside what it said was the Odesa National Art Museum, according to the Reuters news agency.

On the street outside the museum, the strike blew a several-metre hole, injuring one person, city authorities said.

Odesa Mayor Henadii Trukhanov said: "The situation is under control, but everything will have to be examined thoroughly so that we are sure that everything is fine.”

The National Art Museum is based on one of the oldest palaces of Odesa, according to officials.

Before Russia’s February 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the museum housed over 10,000 pieces of art, including paintings by some of the best-known Russian and Ukrainian artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Reuters news agency reported.

On Saturday, Ukrainian forces conducted a successful strike on a Russian shipyard in Kerch, occupied Crimea, likely damaging a naval vessel, the US think tank said.

Ukrainian forces on Sunday continued their counteroffensive operations against Russia’s invading army, making confirmed gains in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and on the east (left) bank of Kherson province, according to the General Staff in Kyiv.

Ukraine also continued its counteroffensive push near the city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region, the ISW reported.

As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.

Monday is day 621 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
