Kaczyński made the plea in an interview with the state-run broadcaster TVP on Tuesday.

Precision long-range artillery

The leader of Poland’s governing Law and Justice (PiS) party said that “Ukraine is defending itself in a highly admirable, but also largely effective manner,” state news agency PAP reported.

“However, it needs heavy weaponry,” he added.

Kaczyński stated: “We need to provide heavy, long-range weapons, precision long-range artillery.”

He praised the Polish government and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki “for doing everything to persuade Western countries in all matters to do with helping Ukraine.”

‘Otherwise events may take a really bad turn’

According to Kaczyński, heavy weapons may decide the outcome of the war.

“If the Ukrainians get them, they will definitely defend themselves in the full sense of the word - otherwise events may take a really bad turn,” he told TVP.

Kaczyński warned that if Russian forces launched an attack on the northeastern city of Kharkiv and broke through the frontline in the eastern Donbas region, “there will be escalation and a big, terrible defeat for the West.”

He appealed to Western countries “to act with full determination” and “make courageous and wise decisions.”

Tuesday was day 118 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
