Officers will be paying special attention to the speed at which vehicles travel during the holiday period, according to Robert Opas from the National Police Headquarters (KGP).

Traffic police will also be checking to make sure drivers are sober and that their cars are in good condition, Opas said on Friday.

He added that in some areas traffic would be monitored by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters and unmarked police cars.

The Safe Easter 2024 road safety campaign began on Friday morning and runs until Monday, when many Poles will be returning home from the holiday break, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Twenty-one people were killed and 203 injured in 173 accidents on Polish roads during last year’s four-day Easter weekend, according to police data.

The Easter weekend is usually when Poles spend time with their extended families and travel extensively to visit their relatives.
