The meeting between Poland's President Andrzej Duda and Slovakia's Zuzana Čaputova focused on security and cooperation as part of the regional Visegrad Group and the Polish-led Three Seas Initiative of 13 European countries, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Speaking at a news conference alongside Čaputova, Duda thanked the outgoing Slovak president for her contribution to "building regional cooperation" and for "actively working" within the four-nation Visegrad Group.

He also voiced gratitude for Slovakia's "contribution to the Three Seas Initiative," according to the Polish President's Office.

Mieszko Pawlak, a top foreign policy aide to the Polish president, said ahead of the meeting that Čaputova's visit would provide an opportunity to reflect on the "excellent cooperation" between the two nations, both bilaterally and regionally, throughout her tenure as president of Slovakia.

Čaputova ends her term as president in mid-June.

Earlier this month, the Polish president congratulated Peter Pellegrini on winning Slovakia's presidential election.

Pellegrini, a nationalist-left government candidate, defeated pro-Western opposition candidate Ivan Korčok by a comfortable margin in the second round of the Slovak presidential vote, news agencies reported.

While in Warsaw on Tuesday, Čaputova was also expected to meet with Polish parliamentary Speakers Szymon Hołownia and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, the PAP news agency reported.

The four-nation Visegrad Group (V4) is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

The Polish-led Three Seas Initiative aims to boost infrastructure, energy and business ties among 13 countries between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

The initiative brings together Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The initiative’s key partners include the European Union and the United States.
