Slovakia’s new president, Zuzana Čaputová, was on Monday paying her first official visit to Poland.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said he and Čaputová also discussed the Three Seas initiative and Ukraine.

At a joint press conference, Duda told reporters: "Both of us are convinced that Ukraine must be supported in striving for stability, maintaining full sovereignty, full independence…”

He added: “It is very important for Ukraine to be closer to EU countries and the Euro-Atlantic community in every respect."

The new Slovak president was sworn in on June 15. Since taking office, Čaputová has visited Prague, Budapest and Brussels.

Poland and Croatia in 2015 launched a regional drive called the Three Seas Initiative to boost infrastructure, energy and economic cooperation as well as political ties among 12 European countries between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.
