Should we expect new NATO members? CEPA Warsaw Director: Georgia is ready to join the Alliance, it is important now

Ostatnia aktualizacja: 10.04.2020 01:00
NATO should offer the Membership Action Plan (MAP), now, to Georgia, as Georgia is ready to join NATO!  As far as Ukraine, allies and Ukraine need to work closely together to bring Ukraine closer to NATO as an “Enhanced Opportunity Partner” in 2020. NATO has room to grow, and continues to expand its arc of security and stability. We should encourage that, says US Army Colonel Ray Wojcik, CEPA Warsaw Director, ex-Army Attaché in American Embassy in Warsaw.

"I recall the watershed moment when Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic joined NATO this month, 21 years ago.  No one thought just a few years earlier, that it would be possible. That dream came true for three 3 vital Central European allies, and we must ensure that the door remains open to other eager aspirants. Today this aspiration is more important than ever, with Europe becoming a great power competition zone, with Russia and China aggressively trying to influence, coerce and ultimately cause insecurity and instability in Europe", notes Ray Wojcik, CEPA Warsaw Director.

PolskieRadio24.pl: North Macedonia is the 30th NATO member. Why is it important for NATO, for the region? What does it bring with it?

It’s fantastic that Macedonia joined NATO. It sends many signals to allies, and to Russia. Number one of course is that Macedonia has taken all the right steps, leading to preparation for joining NATO. Not the least of which, is the significant developments since 2018, to resolve differences with Greece about the nation’s official name – now North Macedonia. Macedonia put in the effort to be ready for NATO, and NATO is fortunate to expand its security and stability footprint. North Macedonia, as a NATO member, brings immediate additional security and stability to the Western Balkans.

For Russia, NATO membership for Macedonia, sends a clear message: that NATO keeps its commitments. That NATO does not backdown when threatened. This is good news for other NATO aspirants like Georgia and Ukraine, and this should also be welcome news for other Western Balkans nations.

It seems really important especially in the context of Russia?

What will NATO's next steps be regarding enlargement?

With accession of North Macedonia, NATO has messaged allies and Russia, “the door to NATO remains wide-open, and there is a pathway.” The pathway was not easy for Macedonia, and others should recognize this situation. The coronavirus fake news pandemic. 'One of the sources of disinformation is the Kremlin, especially in Poland. China is active too'

Ostatnia aktualizacja: 26.03.2020 08:00
"Russia is using the coronavirus pandemic to spread disinformation in Poland and other European countries. It seems that from the Kremlin’s perspective the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemics is not only a threat but also an opportunity. We can also see a lot of China's activity, aiming at controlling the narrative about the origin and history of the pandemic,” said Olgierd Syczewski (Warsaw Office of CEPA) in an interview with PolskieRadio24.pl.

"From Russia with Love" and the wave of fake news. The Kremlin wants to lower Poland's status and disrupt the West

Ostatnia aktualizacja: 08.04.2020 23:00
- Fake news claiming that Poland did not allow Russia’s “medical” transport aircraft on route to Italy, to fly over Polish airspace, or false information about "spreading" of the COVID virus by American soldiers deployed to Poland, for EXERCISE Defender 20 are disinformation patterns, consistent with the Kremlin's political agenda. An information attack on efforts to increase security and defense capabilities of NATO on its eastern flank or an attempt to reduce Poland's status as a model of integration with the West among countries of the former Warsaw Pact, have been some of the key disinformation goals of the Russian Federation for many years - comments Olgierd Syczewski, an analyst of the American think tank CEPA (Center for European Policy Analysis.
