On Tuesday, May 13, the Warsaw District Court dismissed the case after an agreement was signed between Hołownia and Law and Justice (PiS) MPs Jacek Sasin and Sebastian Łukaszewicz.
The two politicians committed to removing posts accusing Hołownia of irregularities in his financial disclosure, specifically regarding the purchase of a property in eastern Poland.
Łukaszewicz had previously demanded Hołownia explain the origins of funds used for the real estate.
In a statement on social media, Hołownia, the presidential candidate of the centrist Third Way alliance, commented: “PiS today has both lost its honor and gained nothing. First, Nawrocki withdraws his lawsuit against me, effectively admitting he lied about my housing affairs. Moments later, after an election court hearing, Sasin and Łukaszewicz are forced to delete their lies about me from their social media.”
The settlement comes amid a heated election campaign, as Poland prepares for its presidential vote.
After the court's decision, PiS politician Jacek Sasin stated that Szymon Hołownia should clearly explain his finances to display any suspicion of hiding the truth from Polish citizens.
During Monday's election debate, Polish parliamentary speaker Szymon Hołownia emphazised that truth is his highest value, explainig this was the reason he filed an election-related lawsuit against politicians supporting Karol Nawrocki, the candidate of the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS).
Hołownia's remarks came amid growing tensions as he accoused his opponents of spreading false information during the campaign. By taking legal action, he aimed to hold the accountable for misleading claims.
