This was reported by Russia’s Central Election Commission following the counting of nearly 13 per cent of the ballots, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.
The Communist Party of Russia is polling at 13 per cent of the vote. The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia is polling at 9 per cent of the vote. The LDPR is the party of the late Russian populist politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Both parties support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The "New People" party receives 7 per cent of the vote in the election. The party does not explicitly state that it supports Russia’s war against Ukraine, but its official position is "peace on Russia’s terms".
The "Fair Russia" party, which received 5 per cent of the vote, has also won seats in the Russian Duma. The party takes a clear anti-Ukrainian stance and supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The leader of the "Fair Russia" party stated that the elections in the Russian Federation had been conducted "legitimately and fairly". The leader of "United Russia" and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that the elections had confirmed "Russia’s foreign policy course".
Voting in Russia lasted three days — from 18 to 20 September. The Russian Central Electoral Commission states that turnout in the election stood at 56.66 per cent.
The Russians held elections to the Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. On 18 September, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the "elections" to the Russian State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories, which are taking place from 18 to 20 September, and emphasised that Ukraine does not recognise either the holding of these ‘elections’ or their results.
The annexation of four regions of Ukraine
In the temporarily occupied territories of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, they began on 23 September 2022, and on 27 September, pseudo-referendums on accession to the Russian Federation came to an end.
Most countries have stated that under no circumstances they will not recognise the results of the "referendums" that the Russian Federation is attempting to organise in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and that all those involved will be held to account.
On 30 September, Putin approved the ratification the "treaties" on the "admission" of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine — the "DPR", the "LPR", and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions — into the Russian Federation, and signed federal constitutional laws on their incorporation into Russia.
In October 2022, Russia published a new version of its constitution, which included Ukrainian territories.
