Trump had been due to arrive in Poland at the weekend for ceremonies marking 80 years since the beginning of World War II, but last week cancelled his trip saying he needed to monitor Hurricane Dorian as it approached the southern state of Florida.

The trip is now being rescheduled. The latest possible date for the American government is the start of December, when Trump is due to attend a NATO summit in London, Krzysztof Szczerski, a top adviser to Poland’s President Andrzej Duda, told reporters on Tuesday.

Polish officials are hoping that during the visit Trump will announce a much-awaited decision to lift visa requirements for Poles travelling to America, according to reports.

The only requirement left for Poland to enter the US Visa Waiver Program is reaching a refusal rate of under 3 percent.

“The visa refusal rate is being calculated until the end of September, and one of important elements of [Trump’s] visit – we hope – will be deciding or confirming whether Poland is eligible for the visa waiver program. Therefore we would like the visit to take place after October 1,” Poland’s Szczerski added.

On Monday, US Vice President Mike Pence said on Monday he was glad that Poland was nearly ready for America's Visa Waiver Program.

Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Croatia are the only EU member countries not included in the waiver programme.
