The electric fence will be a portable and temporary installation, and work to erect it will begin at the end of this week, PAP cited German officials as saying.

In early December, African swine fever (ASF) was detected in a dead wild boar found in western Poland, some 40 km from the German border, PAP reported.

There have been no cases of ASF in Germany so far, according to the Polish news agency. But it added that German pig farmers were worried about infected wild boars being found increasingly close to the German border.

African swine fever is not harmful to humans but can be lethal for pigs. It has been found in some 50 countries around the world and killed hundreds of million of hogs.
