People in cities and villages across the country were expected to open their windows and step out on their balconies at 1 p.m. on Tuesday to cheer for a minute for all those working in hospitals and other medical facilities amid a coronavirus epidemic.

The #BrawaDlaWas (Bravo to You) campaign aims to show doctors, nurses, paramedics and laboratory technicians across the nation that their critical role at the forefront of COVID-19 response efforts is appreciated by the public and that they are widely regarded as heroes, the fakt.pl website reported.

The effort, spearheaded by media outlets including the tabloid Fakt, coincides with World Health Day on April 7.

A total of 4,532 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 111 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Tuesday morning.
