Polish troops deployed to help fight COVID-19

Almost 9,000 Polish troops are helping tackle the coronavirus outbreak across the country, Poland’s Defence Minister said on Sunday.

"The troops are protecting Polish borders, patrolling the streets with police officers, transporting food and medical equipment, as well as taking care of veterans and medical workers’ families”, Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak said in a tweet.

The ministry also added that Polish soldiers run 14 military hospitals and a mental health helpline.

Polish army also launched a mobile laboratory capable of testing for coronavirus infection, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
