Houses, outbuildings, schools and wells were also flooded after heavy rainfall on Friday. About 400 people had to be evacuated, state news agency PAP reported.

Władysław Ortyl, the governor of the province, said help would be given to the areas which were most heavily hit.

He also promised assistance, including loans on preferential terms, for local businesses which suffered damage during the flooding.
