Kwaśniewski “has an elevated temperature and a tiring cough. He is currently in isolation and under medical care,” said Aleksandra Łaszewska, the head of the former president’s office.

She added that Kwaśniewski tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

Łaszewska told state news agency PAP that the former president’s wife, Jolanta Kwaśniewska, was in isolation along with her husband.

Among high-profile Polish politicians who have contracted COVID-19 is President Andrzej Duda, who tested positive in October. Duda later said he was in good health.

Poland on Monday reported 2,431 new coronavirus infections and 45 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases during the pandemic to 1,552,686 and fatalities to 39,132.
