Poland reports 74 new coronavirus cases, no new deaths

Poland on Monday reported 74 new coronavirus infections and no new deaths related to COVID-19, in a further sign that the epidemic was tapering off in the country.

But public health authorities have cautioned that the number of COVID-19 cases in Poland could increase again in the autumn. They have also urged people to get vaccinated before a potential fourth wave of infections.

The latest infections bring Poland’s total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,882,220, while the death toll stands at 75,242.

Of the new cases confirmed on Mondaythe most—16—were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

On Sunday, Poland confirmed one death and 82 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with six deaths and 122 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

305 in hospitals, 83,518 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Monday morning that 305 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 45 of them on ventilators, with a further 83,518 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,653,359 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the coming weeks as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.
