Poland reports 540 new coronavirus cases, one more death

Poland on Sunday reported 540 new coronavirus infections and one more death related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,897,935 and fatalities to 75,488.

Of the new cases confirmed on Sundaythe most — 101 — were in the southeastern Lubelskie province, which includes the city of Lublin.

On SaturdayPoland confirmed 14 deaths and 797 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with eight deaths and 652 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,020 in hospitals, 81,151 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Sunday morning that 1,020 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 111 of them on ventilators, with a further 81,151 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,659,483 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the weeks ahead as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said earlier this month that the daily number of new coronavirus infections in the country could reach 1,000 by the end of September and then rise to 5,000 by late October.
