Facebook’s press office was quoted as saying in a statement that the party’s profile "repeatedly violated social media standards, particularly regarding the rules of the COVID-19 strategy and related restrictions, as well as the use of hate speech.”

Confederation leader Krzysztof Bosak said his party would file a civil suit against Facebook.

He described the suspension of the party’s Facebook profile as "interference into Polish democracy” aimed at “curtailing the freedom of debate” ahead of elections in the country in 2023 and 2025.

Janusz Cieszyński, a minister of state at the Polish Prime Minister’s Office in charge of digitization, told public broadcaster Polish Radio that the Polish government would lodge an official protest with Facebook operator Meta.

He added that the government would support Confederation’s protest against Facebook’s move.

Confederation has 11 deputies in the 460-seat lower house of Poland's parliament.
