The national holiday of All Saints’ Day is a Christian solemnity celebrated on 1 November in honour to those who passed away.

For the first time in three years, Poles are allowed to visit cemeteries without any pandemic-related restrictions, after Poland downgraded COVID to an ‘epidemic threat’ in mid-May, 2022.

This year’s celebrations will also be special for Ukrainian refugees who had to flee their homeland in the wake of the Russian invasion.

To support the Ukrainians, the southern Polish city of Kraków has established a memorial site, where they will be able to pay homage to the victims of the war.

Also, cemeteries across the country, including Warsaw’s Powązki Cemetery, will be raising funds for gravestone renovation.

Meanwhile, Friday saw the police launch their annual 'Operation Torch', the aim of which is to ensure greater safety on the roads during the long weekend.

As of Monday, eighteen people were killed and 281 injured in 247 accidents on Polish roads during this year's All Saints' long weekend.
