During a promotional event at Polish Radio’s Warsaw headquarters on Sunday, Kornhauser-Duda submitted two items of her own to the broadcaster’s annual Choinki Jedynki fundraiser, which is now in its 21st year.

Additionally, Kornhauser-Duda donated a painting by a 17-year-old Ukrainian, named Tatiana, who found refuge in Poland after Russia invaded her country more than nine months ago, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

"Tatiana gave me this painting as a token of gratitude from all Ukrainians to the Polish people, who showed a great heart and offered shelter to their Ukrainian neighbours," Kornhauser-Duda said.

"She also asked me to donate this gift to the auction. So I hope that my own items and Tatiana's painting will be auctioned off and that someone will like them," the Polish first lady added.

Funds raised through the Choinki Jedynki drive will go toward a charitable foundation run by well-known actress Anna Dymna and called Mimo Wszystko (In Spite of Everything).

Half the funds raised this year will go to help sick and disabled children from Ukraine, executives said.
