Poland to spend 4 percent of GDP on defense in 2023: PM

Poland will spend 4 percent of its GDP on defense this year, the country’s prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday.

“The war in Ukraine makes us arm ourselves even faster. This year we will make an unprecedented effort - we will allocate 4% of GDP to the Polish army. Perhaps the most among all NATO countries”, Morawiecki said at a press conference.

He added that for the Polish government the “highest, absolute priority” is to increase the strength of the Polish army and strengthen the presence of NATO troops on Polish territory.

“This will be clear proof for all countries - we will defend our land, Poland is safe, Poland will be increasingly safer together with our allies”, Morawiecki said.
