According to a report by private radio broadcaster RMF24, the internal security agency ABW detained six people on suspicion of carrying out espionage activities in Poland, the InfoSecurity24.pl website said.
The six men, reportedly "of Eastern origin," are thought to have been commissioned by Russian security services to conduct subversive operations in Poland, the website added.
Poland’s minister for security services to make statement on Thursday
Stanisław Żaryn, the number two official to Poland’s minister for the security services, announced that a statement would be issued on Thursday.
Żaryn said in a tweet: “Tomorrow, the Minister for the Security Services and Internal Affairs, Mariusz Kamiński, will make a statement for the media about RMF24’s reports.”
He added: “The news conference will be held at 11 a.m. at the Interior Ministry.”
Russia targets deliveries to Ukraine?
Meanwhile, the Polish government has reportedly issued a security alert for the country’s rail network and critical infrastructure, according to InfoSecurity24.pl.
It came after officials uncovered hidden cameras installed on key rail lines and junctions to monitor rail traffic and broadcast footage online, the website added.
The cameras were found on rail lines in various parts of Poland, but mainly in the southeastern Podkarpackie region, including near Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, which is a hub for assistance, including weapons, to Ukraine, according to RMF24.
“There is a possibility that Russia, having made a negative assessment of its own military capability in the aggression against Ukraine, could target Western assistance” to Ukraine, InfoSecurity24.pl wrote.
Wednesday is day 385 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
