Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Wąsik told public broadcaster Polish Radio on Thursday that Slovakia "has become a popular transit country among illegal migrants."

The government said last month that the renewed checks on the Slovak border were producing the expected results, stopping illegal migrants from transiting through Poland.

Poland reinstated temporary border checks on the Slovak border on October 4. Initially put in place for 10 days, the measure was subsequently extended until November 2. The latest extension further prolongs the checks by an additional 20 days.
