Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk held meetings in the US capital on Monday and Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

He spoke to the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in charge of policy for the EU, Jacqueline Ramos, as well as Republican lawmakers Joe Wilson and Thomas Kean, and Democratic members of Congress Marcy Kaptur and Mike Quigley, among others.

At a media briefing afterwards, the Polish government minister said the talks had focused on Poland’s presidency of the EU in the first half of 2025, the strategic partnership between Poland and the United States, and strategic cooperation between Europe and America.

Szynkowski vel Sęk mentioned “Polish-American defence contracts, the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant using US technology, and infrastructure projects under the Central European Three Seas Initiative, including Poland’s planned mega airport near Warsaw, the Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK),” the PAP news agency reported.

The Polish minister for EU affairs said: “It was also important to send a message that following the parliamentary elections in Poland, work on strategic issues, such as Poland-US cooperation and preparations for Poland’s presidency of the EU, continue without disturbances.”

Szynkowski vel Sęk added that he had also spoken to US officials "about the need for America to continue its support for Ukraine and further strengthen its military presence in Poland,” the PAP news agency reported.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and USAID Administrator Samantha Power sent a letter to Congress, urging approval of President Joe Biden Administration’s request to provide USD 11.8 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine, according to officials.

Wednesday is day 623 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
