Polish conservative PM Morawiecki loses confidence vote in parliament

Poland's conservative Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki failed to win a vote of confidence from lawmakers on Monday, opening the way for a coalition of opposition parties led by Donald Tusk to take power.

A total of 266 MPs voted no confidence in Morawiecki and his new Cabinet, while 190 members of the lower house supported him, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The vote effectively ended eight years of rule by the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, the Reuters news agency reported.
