Polish President meets with Canadian PM

The Polish president is currently on a visit to North America, where he already met with former U.S. President Donald Trump as well as the Polish diaspora in Canada. On Saturday, Duda held a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, after arriving in Canada one day earlier to discuss defense spending among North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members.

During Saturday's meeting, the two politicians reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine, more than two years after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Canadian authorities informed.

Duda and Trudeau also discussed ways to continue supporting Ukraine and expressed their support for President Zelenskyy and his “diplomatic efforts toward peace, particularly through Ukraine’s Peace Formula.”

According to a summary from Duda’s office, the two leaders spoke about Polish-Canadian c, security issues, and expectations related to the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, D.C., on July 9-11.

They also discussed “Canada’s potential contributions to Poland’s energy security, including through cooperation and trade in the nuclear and hydrogen sectors”, according to the Polish state news agency PAP.

During their meeting, the two leaders discussed the Indo-Pacific region, including its opportunities and security challenges. They also received a briefing on the same from the Royal Canadian Navy. In addition, the Prime Minister and the President emphasized the "strong people-to-people ties between their respective countries and acknowledged the significant contributions of Polish Canadians to Canada's national identity."

Moreover, Duda held a news conference for Polish media on the vessel shortly after the tour and thanked Trudeau for recently increasing Canada’s defense spending, the Canadian daily Vancouver Sun reported.

Now, the Polish President is scheduled to visit Edmonton, home to Canada's largest Polish community outside of Toronto, to meet with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
